Schinkel’s Legacy is a family owned Canadian business which began in 1963 when brothers Herman and Gerry Schinkel purchased a butcher shop in Essex. From the very beginning they knew that to satisfy their clients they would need to focus on quality.
It was the local demand for traditional meat products that created the need for a separate facility that was subsequently built in 1993. Rapid growth followed, confirming the successful formula for building loyalty and trust.
Schinkel’s Legacy products are produced using tradition methods, including using only natural hardwood smoke, and are Gluten and MSG free. The numerous awards that have been received over the years are a testament to our commitment to producing high quality meat products for discerning families to share and enjoy.
Schinkel’s Legacy has a strict HACCP based food safety program in place and has been federally registered since April of 2016.

Our commitment to quality has been validated through the many awards that have been received in meat competitions over the years. Our products have received over 35 awards in the categories of Bacon, Black Forest Ham, Kielbossa, Summer Sausage, Turkey Kielbossa, Oven Roasted Turkey Breast, Smoked Turkey Breast and Specialty sausages
Schinkel’s Legacy has also received local awards for industry of the month and twice Industry of the Year most recently in 2012, by the Municipality of Chatham Kent.
